Singer Nikita Kering has revealed the extraordinary lengths she went to in her early days as an aspiring artist, confessing that she once used drinking chocolate, lotion, and baby powder to create her own make-up.

Kering, who has since become one of East Africa’s most celebrated young musicians, recounted how financial constraints forced her to get creative long before fame and fortune arrived.

When I was coming up, I couldn’t afford make-up,” she shared. “My mum didn’t want to buy it for me because she said it would mess up my skin since I was really young. So I used to DIY my make-up.”

The singer explained that she would take drinking chocolate powder and mix it with lotion to create a makeshift foundation. “I didn’t have hydrogen serum at that time. If I wanted it lighter, I would add some baby powder,” she said.

Kering laughed at the memory, admitting the concoction was far from ideal. “Other than smelling like chocolate the whole day, nobody could tell. It’s disgusting,” she said.
