ACTOR ALFRED MUNYUA OPENS UP ON EXITING MOTHER-IN-LAW AND BRANDS HE CANNOT ENDORSE

By  |

Actor Alfred Munyua has opened up about his exit from popular TV drama series Mother-in-Law years back. In a sit-down interview with Buzz Central’s Cheptoek Boyo, the actor said he left the show because it was not challenging.

I just felt like it was time. It was a very good show but at some point I felt like it was not challenging. I could even tell how the show was gonna go. I really love investing and seeing fruits along the way and I was also doing other gigs,” he said.

Munyua disclosed he went to the same primary school with co-star Sarah Hassan, “We knew each other because she is a bright lady and she used to be top three, she was three classes behind me. I used to see her around and she has this look that’s was not your typical Kamba or Kikuyu, so she stood out. She was also friends with my childhood sweetheart and went to the same high school with her. Machakos is also a small town and you would know who is who so we knew each other.”

The actor also spoke about doing a condom advert that sparked debate amongst his relatives and he shared a list of brands that he cannot endorse. “There’s a time I did a condom advert, ‘Nakufeel Mpenzi Wangu’ and my mother called me saying, ‘do you know I’m the chairlady of our church’. My grandma and grandfather called me but I told them to relax. It made me a bit sensitive and anything that’s kinda weird I try to stay clear. I have been called for alcohol brands advert but I had to turn them down because I would never hear the end of it. Some of those things made me very sensitive and choose what I can do and what I cannot do,” said Munyua

He explained his decision to keep his family away from the limelight, “Unless otherwise, I do not know of anyone who has ventured into this craft ever since our ancestors. The way my family first reacted to what I do, some of them still think it’s not a real job and so I just want my family to just enjoy the vibe and know that I go to work. I like keeping them out of what I do and let them venture in what they would like to do,” he said.
