MUSICIAN JOHN KAMAU THREATENS TO SUE POLITICIAN JUNGLE OVER COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

By  |

Popular songwriter and video producer John Kamau has threatened to sue Kiambu gubernatorial candidate Jungle Patrick for using his song ‘Tusonge Mbele na UDA‘ for campaign purposes without his permission.

According to his lawyer Liz Lenjo, Kamau has attempted to reach out to him to settle the matter out of court, but they have yielded no fruits. “It is sad that a leader who claims to champion for economic empowerment, especially of the youth, would make use of a young producer’s sweat, so wantonly and without regard. We have since sent a demand letter in the hopes to settle the matter, but it has not been acknowledged nor responded to.

Kamau wants Jungle to take down all the campaign adverts that feature his song from social media and local TV stations, “Our client has since instituted take-down proceedings against the song on Jungle TV, the candidate’s YouTube page, and hereby forewarns any and all stations playing this song. The action of airing the song constitutes copyright infringement and our client will not hesitate to lay a claim against those broadcasting or steaming this song.

Therefore, those engaging in the said actions have been granted Forty-Eight Hours (48 Hrs) to take it down and remove the campaigns of their respective broadcasting schedules until this matter is resolved. Meanwhile, our client will be proceeding to court to institute a copyright infringement matter.”
