Musician Charisma, a former member of the celebrated Kenyan music group Le Band, has broken his silence on the band’s dissolution, revealing the challenges that led to their split

In a recent interview, the artist attributed the break up to a combination of youthful inexperience, sudden fame, and temptations within the music industry.

We were very young when we started Le Band; I was 18,Charisma reflected. “We didn’t have guidance, and we made mistakes.” He described the group’s inception as a passionate project by individuals who simply loved to sing and were grateful for the opportunity. However, their rapid ascent to fame and awards, including Pulse Music Awards, proved difficult to navigate.

The artist shared how sudden success and public adoration became overwhelming. “We started making money, and the world confused us. We were those guys no one cared about, and now every girl is screaming at us… We were not used to the ladies’ attention, so that life consumed us,” he confessed.

Charisma also said easy access to alcohol led to their downfall. “One thing people don’t talk about is in this industry there is a lot of access to alcohol, and it moves fast. Every event you go to, there is alcohol, and we indulged in women, alcohol, and weed. All of a sudden, the people who used to be so ambitious and glued to their careers and goals became stars.”

He noted that with group like Elani on hiatus, the scene was dominated by Sauti Sol and Hart the Band, with Le Band positioned as a popular alternative. This success, however, was not matched by financially. “Our lives became wild, and we were never saving; we used all the money,” he admitted.
